Job Responsibilities:

Job Purpose:

Perform line construction and maintenance under the direction of a Journeyman-rated Line Technician.      

Duties:

  • Learn overhead and URD construction basics and become familiar with RUS specifications and the National Electric Code.
  • Perform line construction maintenance tasks under the direction of a journeyman-rated Line Technician
  • Assist in building lines and facilities as directed
  • Observe hazardous and unsafe conditions on the system and report them to the Line Supervisor.
  • Ensure that tools and assigned equipment are properly placed on the vehicles and that trucks and equipment are properly maintained.
  • Operate and maintain hydraulic boom, a hole digger, and trenching/backhoe equipment.  Perform pole hauling, framing, setting, and other groundwork.
  • Respond to after-hours trouble on a rotating basis and is dependably available for duty during inclement weather adversely affecting the Cooperative’s electrical system.
  • Understand considerable hazards that exist, including falls, electric shock, electric flash, automobile traffic, and falling objects.  Understand and utilize safety equipment.
  • Learn and comply with all safety policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Perform all other job-related duties assigned by management.

Skills/Qualifications:

Apprentice 3- A high school diploma or state equivalency certificate is required. No previous experience is required. Must have CDL (commercial driver’s license).

Apprentice 2- A high school diploma or state equivalency certificate is required with Three (3) years prior experience in overhead and underground construction and maintenance is desired. Must have successfully completed the apprenticeship program required for Apprentice Line Tech III. Must have CDL (commercial driver’s license).

Apprentice 1- A high school diploma or state equivalency certificate required with Three (3) years prior experience in overhead and underground construction and maintenance is desired. Must have successfully completed the apprenticeship program required for Apprentice Line Tech III and II.  Must have CDL (commercial driver’s license).

To be considered for one or all three levels, all candidates must live or re-locate within 30 minutes of the Midway office. Relocation assistance is not available. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common technical journals, safety material, and other work-related documents.  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common technical journals, safety material, and other work-related documents.  Ability to use standard office equipment and laptops.  Ability to work nonstandard work hours or work week, possible overtime work, and to be “on-call” on a rotating basis.  Must have or be able to attain forklift certification.  Must be able to lift up to seventy-five (75) pounds.
